Scoil Naomh Cualán
Liam Mc Carthy Cup visits Scoil Naomh Cualán
Scoil Naomh Cualán was the place to be on Friday last, September 9th, when Brendan Maher, our 2016 All-Ireland Winning Captain and his teammates proudly brought the Liam McCarthy Cup to our school. It proved a very special day as Borrisoleigh’s former All-Ireland winning captains and All-Stars also visited and brought history and heritage to life for pupils, staff and management alike. Pride of place and recognition of our rich hurling tradition was to the fore as Jimmy Finn (Tipperary Senior Captain, 1951), Michael Ryan (All-Ireland Club Championship Captain, 1987), Bobby Ryan (Tipperary Senior Captain, 1989) and Brendan Kenny (representing his father, Seán, R.I.P. Tipperary Senior Captain, 1950) joined Paddy Stapleton (All-Ireland winner 2010 and 2016), Jerry Kelly (All-Ireland Minor Winner 2016) and Philip Maher, (All-Ireland Winner and All-Star 2001) for this unique occasion which will linger long in the memories of young and old present.
Unfortunately, Dan Mc Cormack (All-Ireland Winner 2016) was unable to be present on the day but was well represented by his youngest brother, Pádraig who was part of a very happy and appreciative audience. All-Ireland Winning Minor Captain, 1948, Paddy Kenny R.I.P. was represented by his brother, Eddie. Unavoidably absent on the day were Michael Clohessy, Team Masseur, and Conor Stakelum, Selector.

Following words of acknowledgement and welcome from Fr. Everard P.P, Board of Management Chairperson, Jody Spooner and Kay Ryan, School Principal, the school hall rang out to the strains of Slievenamon and happy cheering children. We hope that the inspirational words and presence of our visiting guests will further inspire our future hurlers and camógie players to achieve the highest honours in sport and in life. On a day when past met present and future it was, indeed, a privilege and a joy for all present to join in the singing of our club anthem, Lovely Fair Ileigh, as we remembered all who represented our parish over the years, living and deceased and looked forward to a bright future for Borrisoleigh and Tipperary. Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí!
Scoil Naomh Cualán would like to thank all our guests and everybody who helped to make the day so special. A huge ‘thank you’ to Michael Ryan whose photographs captured the atmosphere of the occasion so well. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go leir.
Further photos from the visit are available here and here.

U12’s had a fantastic victory over Cashel last Saturday in the U12B County Final. This was a very tough game, and with a draw game at full time, a spirited Borris team put on a fantastic display of hurling to win this final 1-04 to 0-05. This team have already won a U12 County cup earlier this year and to also win a League title in a higher grade is a fantastic achievement.
Scorers: Hope Bergin 0-02, Katie Fitzgerald 0-02 & Aoife Fitzgerald 1-00.
Well done girls we are all very proud of you.
