An impressive line-up before the off!
This year’s cycle in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Group TLC4CF took place last Saturday 17th September. Once again there were two events a 25 mile and a 50 mile cycle, the success of both measured by the fact that over 90 cyclists took part. Over 30 took part in the 50 mile route and over 60 completed the 25 miles. After many years of sunshine the weather this year went against us and strong winds particularly on the home leg punctuated by some torrential showers made conditions very difficult. However, this didn’t deter the brave participants and everyone completed the cycle safely. The two events were timed to finish together but due to a downpour, waiting at Greenlawn wasn’t possible, but both groups arrived within 15 minutes of one another at the Marian Hall where some welcome refreshments were served to all who took part by a large team of volunteers.
This event has now become well established in the calender and the number of local and visiting cyclists has increased over the last few years. However, the event could not take place without the hard work of very many people in Borrisoleigh who contribute their time, effort, support and sponsorship when asked. Without this it would be very difficult to organise. The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped out on the day in any way ensuring another successful outing. This includes the stewards who manned the safety cars at the front and back of each group and carried the refreshments that were available at each stop. The motorbike marshalls who ensured a safe passage through all roads and junctions and the First Aid Officers. Thanks also to Sergeant Tom McCormack of Borrisoleigh Gardai and also the Gardai and Traffic Corps in Thurles who arranged and escorted the group safely through the town. Refreshments during and after the cycle were provided by Gleeson Group, Walsh’s Costcutters, Donal Hurley’s Gala, Shanahans Centra and Stapletons Bakery. Thanks also to the Marian Hall Committee who made the hall available for the serving of the post cycle refreshments. The organisers would also like to thank everyone who prepared and served all the refreshments that were available in the Marian Hall and helped to tidy up afterwards.
In conjunction with the charity cycle two additional fundraisers were organised last Thursday. A jersey day took place in St.Joseph’s College Borrisoleigh where EUR 500 was collected and a sponsored car wash took place in Nenagh which raised EUR 900. Thanks to all who contributed to these events. These amounts will be included in the final cheque passed to the TLC4CF group. Thanks to the management, staff and pupils of St. Joseph’s College and the management and staff of Revenue Nenagh for their co-operation and generosity and also T.J. Ryan of Coarsepark who provided his time and equipment for the Carwash.
Finally great praise and credit is due to all the cyclists who gave their time and effort to take part on the day and also to their very generous sponsors. Currently the sponsorship money lodged has reached EUR4,800 but there are a number of cards still outstanding and all cards and money should be returned as soon as possible to PJ Delaney or Ruairi O’ Connell as the organisers would like to hand over the money raised as soon as possible.

On Sunday 11th September the Templemore Fit4Life group ran a very successful innaugural 4 Mile Track & Trail Run in Templemore Town Park. The weather was favourable and the turnout was good with 131 entrants, including a few walkers. The Run started on the Athletic Track and then took in 2 loops of the Town Park, around the lake and through the woods. The photos above are a selection of some of the Borrisoleigh people that took part. A gallery with more photos from the day will be available later. The results are available on the following link. Well done to all who took part and we look forward to next year’s Run.
