Borrisoleigh Active Social Club

Borrisoleigh Active Social Club went off on their Christmas shopping trip last Friday.  They left Borrisoleigh and headed to Newbridge Silverware & The Whitewater shopping centre.  In the afternoon they headed onto Johnstown Garden Centre. Before the storm Darragh landed we had dinner in the Kildare House hotel.  While it was an enjoyable day everyone was happy to arrive back to Borrisoleigh in time for the Late Late Toy Show.

The next trip for the club is to go to Bru Boru Cashel on Friday Dec 13th.  The Celtic Brothers are in concert so a good night is assured.  Bus leaves Borrisoleigh Gaa grounds at 6.30pm.
On Wed Dec 18th we are having a Christmas party/sing along  in Finns Bar, Borrisoleigh.  It starts at 8.30pm and open to all members.  Spot prizes galore on the night.

Christmas Crib

Many members of the local Ukrainian community came for the occasion and treated us to their music and songs, — including their National Anthem and their famous patriotic song, “Chervona Kylina”.

Provincial Glory for Borris Duo:
A quartet of Borrisoleigh young guns travelled to Ennis on Sunday last to participate in the Munster ‘B’ Cross Country Championship.

A superb performance from Patrick Meehan in the Under 11 grade was rewarded with a placing on both the Templemore and Tipperary teams that both climbed the victory podium in third and second positions respectively.

A hugely impressive surge to the finish line from Cian Cowan in the Under 13 race resulted in him securing a silver medal with the Tipperary team and further add to his already impressive gathering of Cross Country honours this season.

We also had impressive showings from Laoise Cowan and Niamh Keane in the Under 11 grade and although they didn’t finish in medalling positions, their performances crowned an excellent season for both on the grass.

Track-Attack Series Concluded:
The 2-4-6 Series on Monday nights have now concluded and we would like to thank everyone who participated each week.

We now look forward to the “Destination Latteragh” Series which will start on Monday 6th January and it promises to be the perfect way to kickstart your New Year Fitness regime.

                                                                                             ————————————————————————————————-

Hi all,

I’ve been tasked with compiling and writing a history of GAA activity in the primary schools, e.g. North Finals/ County Finals, Primary Game, INTO mini sevens etc.

The more recent history is fairly well documented, however older records are sparse. I don’t want to leave anyone out!

If you are aware of any noteworthy GAA related facts from 1987 to present in relation to Fantane NS, St Theresa’s GNS, St Patrick BNS or Scoil Naomh Cualán please get in contact with me at scoilnaomhcualan@gmail.com. Or you can drop photos, newspaper cuttings etc. into the school and I’ll photocopy or scan what’s needed.

I’m looking for photos of teams, photos of Primary Game representatives, write ups from finals, coaches that were involved over the years, pupils who went on to represent Tipperary in the various codes, GAA quiz winners etc.

Many thanks for your help,

Michael Small
