Patrick was born around 1800 or 1813 depending on whether you believe his 1875 death certificate in Sydney or his 1851 shipping records!

Ellen was born around 1802 (death certificate in Sydney 1863) or 1813 (shipping records 1851). Her parents were John Fogarty and Hannah/Honora Rye. Her native place in the shipping records is “Munroe, Co Tipperary”.

Patrick and Ellen had five children who came with them to Sydney: Hannah, Philip (my ancestor), John, Thomas and Patrick.

My dad is old now and forgetting a lot but he talks about an old farm that his dad was born in. My dad Michael Barry's mum was called Elizabeth and his dad was William/Bill Barry whose mum was called Hanora and my dad's uncle Tom and his grain Hanora lived there when my dad was little and used to go there to visit them. My dad talks about a cottage with a wooden staircase in the middle and one big room upstairs. A barn in the back field and a path with two trees on the entrance, plus an orchard at the side of the cottage. He also mentioned the devils bit mountain or hill. My dad has alzheimers now and before he forgets everything I would love to try and find any pictures of the cottage if it still exists, just to show him how it is today. We hope it is still in the family of my grandad BIll, but if it isn't in the family we still would like to see it, so if anyone knows the cottage I mention then if you can share any images we would be grateful. I am a direct descendant of Martin Ryan B 1800 (approx) and his 2nd son Thomas Ryan (1829-1917). My grandmother Mary Julia Cummins (nee Callaghan) was the daughter of John Joseph and Mary Ann Callaghan (nee Ryan). Mary Ann was the third child of Thomas Ryan. I have had two trips exploring parts of Ireland but have not yet made it to Borrisoleigh, but hopefully one day. Might find a few distant relatives!

My Dad and his 13 brothers and sisters were born in Borrisoleigh. My Dad, Mathew Corbett, was born in 1898. He became a freedom fighter in his teens and became a Captain (IRA). He was forced to leave his beloved homeland approx. 1922-1923 as the Free-State army placed a price on his head. He returned for a visit in 1930 and met my Mom (who was visiting relatives Irish relatives.) My Mom was from England and upon his return to the U.S. sent for my Mother. My sister, Margaret, was born in 1931 and I was born in 1938. I visited once in 1950 and worked the farm outside Borrisoleigh. I have fond memories of that visit. Sometimes I wish that my Dad didn't have to leave, I would have known all my Uncles and Aunts and their children. I now keep in touch with some of them on Facebook but it's not the same as truly knowing them. Borrisoleigh seems like a magical place, it is my Camelot!!!

I have so many fond memories of wonderful holidays in Borrisoleigh and the great characters I met. My grandmother was Ellen Quinn (nee Devaney) and I am the niece of Jim Quinn. My Mum Janie Quinn was born in Chapel Street in 1923 the oldest of 9 children. My uncle Mick is the only one left now sadly. They are all much missed. I am on holiday in Borris in June and I can't wait to return it has been too long since I was last over.

my great grandmother Sarah Ryan of Coolderry, married James Joseph Costello, her parents were Dennis Ryan and Ann Carr, her brother was the only one who stayed in Ireland, John Ryan 1860-1949, are there any descendants of his still around, i'm interested in both the Ryan, and Carr families history, I'm pretty solid on the Costello side, but my great great grandmother was Johanna Maher, 1836-1906 and i know nothing about her at all, any help would be greatly appreciated...matthewcostello295@gmail.com
