Track-Attack is Back

With the evening’s stretch traditionally beginning on January 6th, for 2025 this coincides with the new and reenergised Track-Attack season. The New Year’s goals, ambitions and fitness programmes are currently being dreamt up but few if any will compare with teaming up with Mother Nature, lacing up the runners and allowing your inner running and walking abilities swim to the surface.

Track-Attack’s opening decade of activities are now complete but we now enter an exciting period where we intend to invite former, existing and new members to jump aboard the Track-Attack train and together we will achieve our individual and collective goals in what will be a hugely enjoyable and friendly atmosphere.

Destination Latteragh:

Our new series is entitled Destination Latteragh. It’s a 14 week programme that is kindly sponsored by Pallas Cleaning Services, John Cummins Engineering and Pat Keane Painting & Decorating.

The series has three different segments to ensure that all standards are catered for. Segment one is a 100km challenge over the 14 weeks, segment two participants will see them cover 70km while the participants of segment will complete 39km.

It is further broken into three blocks and a completion block. The breakdown for segment one is 4 weeks x 4km, 4 weeks x 6km, 4 weeks x 8km, then 1 x 12km and on Saturday 12th April, it will be Destination Latteragh with a 16km trek from Borrisoleigh to Latteragh Woods.

The segment 2 breakdown is 4 weeks x 3km, 4 weeks x 4km, 4 weeks x 6km, 1 x 8km and finish on the 12th with 10km.

The segment 3 breakdown is 4 weeks x 2km, 4 weeks x 2.5km, 3 weeks x 3km, 1 x 4km and conclude with a 5km on April 12th.

Who can participate?

Track-Attack is based in Borrisoleigh but it is not a parochial club, it is a community club. Participants are welcome and invited from within the parish boundaries of surrounding areas. Your current level of fitness is irrelevant, we welcome everyone from the complete beginner to the ultra-marathon runner and each will be catered for and valued in equal measures.

Kids are more than welcome and indeed encouraged to join and get active. You simply have two steps to make – 1) sign up and 2) make that first step out the front door on January 6th.

You will not regret it.

How do I sign up?

All participants must become a Track-Attack member. This in no way effect your membership to an affiliated athletics club as we are a club that simply promote recreational and sporting activities and are not affiliated to Athletics Ireland.

You sign up by logging into borrisoleightrackattack.ie

1)    Print in your name, address and phone number.

2)    Select membership – the fees are as follows: €20 for adults, €10 for juveniles or €50 for a family

3)    You then click on “select challenge”. For adults, this is €20 (which covers the 14 week series). There is no fee here for juveniles

4)    Click on the box provided to allow the club use your photo for club promotional purposes if you don’t mind us doing so.

5)    Submit payment and you’re good to go!!

When does it start? We will kick off proceedings on Monday 6th January at the track in the Borris-Ileigh GAA grounds. You will hear the start whistle at 8pm sharp so give yourself plenty of time to get your warm up done and get to your starting point on the track. The starting points will be visible on the track.

A timing clock will be visible at the finish line. Participants can take a glance as they tick off their laps to see how they are progressing and when your run/walk is completed, you will be asked to post your name, distance and time on the provided sheet each night.

                                                                                             ————————————————————————————————-

Hi all,

I’ve been tasked with compiling and writing a history of GAA activity in the primary schools, e.g. North Finals/ County Finals, Primary Game, INTO mini sevens etc.

The more recent history is fairly well documented, however older records are sparse. I don’t want to leave anyone out!

If you are aware of any noteworthy GAA related facts from 1987 to present in relation to Fantane NS, St Theresa’s GNS, St Patrick BNS or Scoil Naomh Cualán please get in contact with me at scoilnaomhcualan@gmail.com. Or you can drop photos, newspaper cuttings etc. into the school and I’ll photocopy or scan what’s needed.

I’m looking for photos of teams, photos of Primary Game representatives, write ups from finals, coaches that were involved over the years, pupils who went on to represent Tipperary in the various codes, GAA quiz winners etc.

Many thanks for your help,

Michael Small
